I kept thinking about the "call for entries" for the contest "Scotland Rocks" and
my daughters painting of a street in Edinburgh. "Shannon, why don't I quilt your
painting" I said.

My daughter was my biggest ally. "Do it, do it!" And she didn't let up on me until
it was done. Of course I was in over my head, and more than a few times I said
"well, I'll finish it, but not for the contest". "You have to do it!" was her mantra.

So at one minute to midnight of the deadline, we emailed the required digital photo. It was done!
And it had been challenging. I learned tons of stuff researching the internet for
techniques. Dealt with frustration and "frogging" (rip it rip it) often times too. And the
dreaded deadline!

Winning a prize was way beyond my expectations. To get THE PHONE CALL floored
me. "Who me?". I felt validated! My family proud! Of daughter
said she knew I would!

In retrospect, the best part is being excited about a project. Then figure it out
(somehow) , feel the fear and do it anyways.

Shannon and I are talking about doing another two-some...she'll paint and I'll
quilt it! It should be FUN! That's my "real" reward.

ps...the theme for next year is "Plaid-Vertising". I have the "call for entries" forms
for those of you who want to have some fun too! It's for a "wee" quilt no more
than 24" x 24", that must include a piece of plaid. Deadline for image & entry form
is March 4, 2009, quilt in by March 30, 2009
