new year

It's that time of year again......... when the KOURAGEOUS KIDS ART CALENDAR is here. The calendar is made up of artwork of children with cancer and blood disorders, and their siblings.

Kourageous Kids Art Calendar

If you haven't picked up a copy of it yet, you should make a point of doing so. The Calendars raise awareness of childhood cancer through the efforts of supporters of Balding for Dollars.

Recently, the LQG received the following email (posted with permission).

January 3, 2015
Dear Langley Quilters Guild,
Every year I am so thankful for what you did for myself and my son. When he was in the worst of times, another relapse, again, there was a knock at the door about 8 PM one evening. We were so tired, after years of fighting cancer, chemo to chemo to chemo, and the cancer getting the advantage again. We were just collecting our thoughts of what we would do this time, how we would get the strength to keep on going. We just about fell off the couch when we saw the beautiful quilt. His favorite Sponge Bob picture. He tried so hard to sell 5000 calendars the year he drew that picture but had to quit at 2525 when he relapsed again. This was his favorite picture, and we loved his previous pictures that were incorporated into the quilt, signature and all. It was this gift of love, knowing strangers had put their love into each stitch, strangers from our own community of Langley, that picked us up and gave us the strength to keep fighting a little longer. Every Christmas when we hang this quilt on our wall for the season, we talk about that night, and are so thankful for the love you sent and the strength you gave us. These quilts mean far more than anyone can ever imagine. Thank you for your time, love and kindness.

My son is doing well. He took 8 years of chemo, 2002-2011, then 2.5 years of leg surgery 2011-2013, and has had a great year being strong and without medicine. Please feel proud that you are the community that helped make this miracle a reality.

Thank you.
Love from Shannon Whieldon RN BSN (LDRP / Maternity LMH) and Brendan Whieldon (student Walnut Grove Secondary)
